The Celtics drafted Chuck Cooper, the first African-American selected in an NBA Draft. Cooper was a small forward out of Duquesne. He played four seasons for the Celtics then briefly for the then-St. Louis Hawks and the Fort Wayne (later Detroit) Pistons.

And on April 25, 1965, the Celtics hammered the Lakers, 129-96, to win the NBA Finals in five games.
