Seriously GOAT?

If Brady is serious, Pats must say no As idle chatter goes, this is perched on the top shelf. It is based on such deeply rooted silliness that even Brett Favre, the poster child for hanging on too long, could blush. Tom Brady adroitly chummed the waters on Thursday by declaring that he is “not opposed” to returning as an NFL quarterback. To spice it up a bit he mentioned a team or three that he would consider should it need a quarterback so highly trained in the art of penning a fairy-tale ending to its season. The Patriots were ...

QB search continues

Maybe Pats can find someone by legally tampering Only the NFL could come up with something as silly as the legal tampering period. Starting  Monday teams could talk with players’ agents without the brute force of a Roger Goodell spanking.  So multi-year contracts, emptying vaults filled with millions, only need a few hours of haggling to take shape. On Wednesday, the official free agent market officially begins, so free agent players can openly negotiate and sign deals for more money than they could possibly deserve. No contracts cant be signed until Wednesday at 3 p.m., kicking off the official NFL ...

Hail to the champs

Settle down, Patriots fans Common knowledge has rendered its assessment of Sunday’s Super Bowl (aka The Big Game, as they say in commercials not blessed by the National Football League): Kansas City didn’t win, San Francisco choked. This common conclusion is particularly well rooted in these parts. Punctuating Chiefs 25, 49ers 22 (OT) with an asterisk protects the Patriots’ dynasty, and Tom Brady’s superiority. Or so it is alleged. Why do the Patriots and Brady require rhetorically armed guards? They don’t. What happened then and what we are seeing done now are related in that they both happened in the ...

Thanks for the memories

Belichick, Kraft wisely part ways Bill Belichick almost seemed poised to shed a tear. Of course, almost amounts to nothing in teary eyes or Super Bowls, as Belichick well knows, perhaps better than anyone. Everyone offering opinions in front of TV cameras agreed that it was time for Belichick to go. Lots of Patriots fans agree. Those who don’t are likely to come around once all of the backstories are presented - particularly those tales of who said what and how they said it in the hours required to close the book on the most successful coaching run the NFL ...

Brady Day goes nicely … as for the game …

Jones declines any consolation prizes Sunday’s Bradypalooza went strictly according to … well, not plan. No such hoopla can be precisely scripted. Let’s say its course meandered within the guardrails as well as could be expected. Tom Brady Appreciation Day (also known as the 2023 Patriots Opening Day) began with the hero of the hour clanging a bell atop the giant lighthouse, just behind the newly installed giant video-scoreboard. He waved to the crowd, igniting more full-throated adulation. Then Brady and his kids shared the owners box with Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Patriots czar-in-waiting Jonathan Kraft. ...

Brady moving on … again

Brady (probably) means it this time Tom Brady re-announced his retirement as an NFL quarterback. Since he announced his retirement as an NFL quarterback a year ago, it is only sensible that his re-announcement be appended with a maybe. Or maybe a probably. Probably looks like the way to go this time. Probably is sprinkled with a bit more certainty than maybe. Brady is too intelligent to try this again. Retirement remorse is one thing, but if he turns up at any training camp in July wearing anything resembling a player’s uniform and his legacy would take ...
