Dec. 25, 1987

With a history of failing, usually badly, when playing the Dolphins in Miami, the Patriots spent their days in preparation for a Monday Night Football extravaganza at the Orange Bowl in Vero Beach, Fla.

Apparently, it wasn’t their spotty record that prompted coach Raymond Berry to choose Dodgertown as the Pats’ preparation paradise. It was the Miami nightlife.

Patriots offensive lineman Sean Farrell sharpened his sarcasm in an interview with the Boston Globe over the array of distractions offered in Vero Beach.

“Oh, there’s lots to do here. There’s talking, sleeping. They even have running water.

“… They have television here. I listened to Johnny Carson last night.”

As for the game, the Pats won, 24-10.
