This is as old-time as the NBA gets:

The Celtics playing at Boston Arena.

Their opponent is the Washington Capitols.

And the coach of the Capitols is Red Auerbach.

Before a crowd of 4,294 at the Arena, the Celtics defeated the Capitols, 84-56.

Auerbach was in a tough spot. One night earlier, Washington outlasted the New York Knickerbockers, 106-99, in overtime at the Uline Arena.

That venue eventually became the Washington Coliseum, and hosted the Beatles’ first concert i the United States.

But we digress …

Mel Riebe led the Celtics with 21 points and Ed Sadowski tossed in 18.
