If only there were a few more Red Auerbachs in today’s coaching universe.

The Celtics fell to the Lakers, 125-123, which no doubt soured Auerbach’s never-ambivalent demeanor. But he also had a few words in response to a Lakers fan who spent the evening heckling Auerbach, armed with a power megaphone.

“We’ll beat them in the finals,” Auerbach growled, before laying into the fan and the city.

“I don’t care if a guy yells at me,” Auerbach said. “But why does he have to use that megaphone? Can you imagine what would happen if he did that in Boston?”

Auerbach then dismissed Los Angeles as “a bush-league town.”

Pure candor.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have some of that today?
