Northeastern University announced that Reggie Lewis’ number 35 would be retired, the first basketball player there to be so honored.

Two years after being drafted by the Celtics, Lewis was the Huskies’ all-time scoring leader with 2,708 points; he remains NU’s career scoring leader.

Lewis’ Celtics teammates were all invited to the number retirement ceremonies, scheduled for Jan. 21 before Northeastern’s game against Siena.

“I really do feel honored by it,” Lewis said, as reported in the Boston Globe. “It makes me feel proud that they would want to do that.”
