Baseball Bats

Tiger Stadium truly was a launching pad. It was allegedly 325 feet to the right-field foul pole, but the upper deck hung out over the warning track, lopping 10 feet off distance from home plate.

Carl Yastrzemski had a three-home run game at Tiger Stadium in 1976. Two were into the right-field upper deck while Yaz sliced one to left field over the 365-foot marker in the power alley.

So no one even vaguely familiar with Tiger Stadium would so much as blink upon learning that a 9-4 Red Sox win included a four-home run inning. The sluggers were Mo Vaughn, Nomar Garciaparra, Darren Lewis and … Donnie Sadler.

That would be the Donnie Sadler whose eight-year big-league career ended with a total of six homers ro his credit.

And it was a three-run bomb, giving a boost to his career total of 46 RBIs.
