Ted Lepcio stepped in to play shortstop when Billy Klaus was injured in the second inning and belted a three-run homer to lift the Red Sox over the White Sox, 5-2, at Comiskey Park.

A more noted Ted, Mr. Williams, had a solo homer, his 27th of the season.

The second-place White Sox dropped to six games behind the Yankees. The third-place Red Sox were 12 back.
