Sonny Siebert’s best days were behind him, but he some extra motivation making his first appearance against the Red Sox since they shipped him to the Texas Rangers five weeks earlier.

It didn’t help. Siebert didn’t make it out of the fifth inning, allowing three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth in a game the Red Sox ultimately won, 10-1.

Bill Lee went the distance for his seventh win of the season, allowing one run on five hits. He also added to his burgeoning character as the Space Man.

According to Boston Globe scribe Clif Keane, after issuing a walk and going to a 2-0 count on Jeff Burroughs, a trip to the mound by Carlton Fisk went something like this:

“Let’s not have any three-hour game.”

“Well, if you don’t want a three-hour game, why are you out here? Let’s go, go back to the plate.”

The game came in at 2:37. And it was Lee’s fourth straight complete game.

Don’t put any money on that parlay happening again.
