Red Sox Fans

June 17, 1993

Butch Hobson’s first season as manager of the Red Sox had its ups and downs, In mid-June Hobson’s crew staggered through a valley.

A baby step forward came as the Red Sox battered Yankees starter Melido Perez for seven runs on eight hits over six innings. They salvaged one win in their three-game series in the Bronx, 7-1. Perez did himself no favors by walking six batters.

Mike Greenwell’s three-run homer in the first sent the Red Sox on their way.

Five days later Boston began a seven-game winning streak. They stayed hot through July, going 20-7 for the month. On Aug, 7 they hit their high-water mark at 62-48.

Alas, from there they won just 18 games over the remainder of the season.
