Big night at the Garden for the Celtics:

They defeated the Philadelphia Warriors, 93-88.

They clinched the NBA Eastern Division championship.

Tommy Heinsohn and Frank Ramsey scored 22 points apiece.

Game 1 of the finals was set for the Garden two days later. Rest wasn’t considered essential back in the day.

As for the Warriors, their night couldn’t have gone much worse. In addition to squandering an early fourth-quarter lead, they found themselves the victim of a robbery after it was over.

Thieves broke into their lockers and made off with about $200 from players’ wallets.

Back then, $200 was not chump change.
