Red Sox catcher Mike Ryan caught both ends of a Red Sox doubleheader sweep of the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park.

Ryan said he did not go to manager Dick Williams to discuss his lack of playing time, after appearing in just four games previously. He responded with two doubles, two singles and two RBIs against the Tigers.

Before acquiring Elston Howard in August, the Red Sox’ catching duties were divvied up between Ryan, Russ Gibson and Bob Tillman.
