Red Sox manager Don Zimmer blamed himself for a Red Sox loss in the Bronx. Luis Tiant began the seventh inning with a 5-2 lead and didn't leave until the Yankees torched him for four runs on five hits, including home runs by Craig Nettles and Carlos May.

“I will never take credit for winning a ball game, but I will take credit for losing one,” Zimmer said, as reported in the Boston Globe.

Red Sox fans were never shy about blaming Zimmer for lost ball games.
