In a battle of Red Sox alumni, Walt Dropo hit a pinch-hit grand slam off Chuck Stobbs to spark the Chicago White Sox over the Washington Senators, 6-1.

Dropo was a first baseman for the Red Sox from 1949-1952. He was the American League Rookie of the Year, All Star and led the American League with 144 RBIs in 1950 (his first full season).

In answer to the obvious question, Dropo fractured his right wrist. The Red Sox traded him to the Tigers in 1952 and Dropo never came close to matching the promise he showed in 1950.

Stobbs pitched for the Red Sox from 1947-51.
