Bruins Flag

That they would open their season on the road against the defending Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs didn’t seem to faze the Bruins.

And the B’s had a little added motivation since the Maple Leafs shut them down in the first round of that march to the Cup.

Eddie Sandford scored two goals while Milt Schmidt and Pete Babando scored one apiece in the 4-1 win.

The Bruins opener was buried on the eighth page of an eight-page Sunday Globe sports section. On the first seven pages there was football … lots and lots of college football and high school football.

Just below the Bruins story there was a brief advance on the Boston Yanks game at Fenway Park against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was flanked by two high school football games that didn’t make the cut for the first seven pages.

Not surprisingly, the Yanks’ fourth season in Boston was their last.
