Oct. 26, 1962

A quick trivia query: Name the first NBA team to set up shop in Chicago.

Anyone guessing the Bulls is in for a surprise – and perhaps a smirk.

On this date 60 years ago, veteran NBA guard Al Ferrari went on the disabled list with a knee injury. Ferrari injured his knee in the Chicago Zephyrs’ 118-107 win over the Los Angeles Lakers the previous night.

Yup; anyone who believes the New Orleans Pelicans should be a team in a Disney movie might mull over the Chicago Zephyrs for a moment.

The Zephyrs were an expansion team in 1961-62. After the 1962-63 season, they went to Baltimore and became the Bullets.

And somehow, a team that won 25 games managed to beat the Lakers.
