May 11, 1947 New York Yankees pitcher Frank (better known as “Spec”) Shea created a tale that may still be passed down from one generation of Sheas to the next: The day he struck out Ted Williams twice – as a rookie, in his first start at Fenway Park. One strikeout came with the bases full, the other with two men on. Shea and Yankees beat Williams and the Red Sox, 9-6. He finished the season with a record of 14-6. You May Have Missed...
