August 3, 2002 Major League Baseball came down hard on the Red Sox for an epic beanball brawl they had six days earlier with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway and all of the Boston personnel who were punished, to degrees large and small, appealed. They would include manager Grady Little ($1,000 fine), pitching coach Tony Cloninger (two-game suspension), pitcher Derek Lowe (five-game suspension), catcher Jason Varitek (four games) and second baseman Rey Sanchez (three games), plus Shea Hillenbrand, Carlos Baerga, Doug Mirabelli and Ugeuth Urbina (all fined $500).
